According to reports from the media around Avs practice today, head coach Jared Bednar had some updates on the injuries suffered by defensemen Erik Johnson and Anton Lindholm. Both of them are being considered “out indefinitely” with upper-body injuries.
They were injured in Sunday afternoon’s tilt at Pepsi Center against the Edmonton Oilers. Lindholm exited the game in the second period after making contact with his arm on Oilers’ forward Leon Draisaitl in the neutral zone. He showed signs of discomfort and never returned to the game.
Johnson appeared to be in a lot more pain than Lindholm when he suffered his injury. Speculation around social media has it being a possible bone injury to his arm or shoulder area, but nothing has been reported other than “upper-body” to this point.
Avalanche will likely announce a few call-ups from AHL San Antonio later today.
As a side note, Jared Bednar will likely role forward with Semyon Varlamov starting in net every game for the time being, while Jonathan Bernier is sidelined with a concussion. AJ Haefele from BSN Denver says that Bednar might be hesitate to start Andrew Hammond:
Varlamov likely to get all the games on the road trip. Bednar sounds very reluctant to play Hammond. He stated clearly "It's Varly's net"
