According to Marc Stein (@TheSteinLine), the Denver Nuggets have expressed interest in Celtics’ point guard Marcus Smart. Boston has recently been shopping Smart around the league, and GM Danny Ainge is reportedly looking for a first-round draft pick.
Denver is among the teams that has explored Marcus Smart trade scenarios with Boston, according to league sources. Emmanuel Mudiay has been made available, sources say, but the Celts covet a first-round pick for Smart
However, it is rumored that the Nuggets could be willing to part with younger guard, and former first-rounder Emmanuel Mudiay plus a second-round pick.
Smart is currently out of the lineup recovering from a laceration in his hand after he said he punched a picture frame at a hotel recently. He is expected to be fully recovered after the All-Star break.
It’s an interesting proposition to think of for the Nuggets who continue to battle for a playoff spot in the Western Conference race — adding a veteran point guard like Smart could go a long way and providing needed leadership as the stretch run heats up.
The question here is — who will budge on the possible offer? Will the Celtics settle for Mudiay and a 2nd? Or will the Nuggets change their approach and be willing to give up a 1st?
