Avs pre-game notes: Bernier in net, Rantanen will play vs Blues tonight

The Avs will continue to ride the red hot Jonathan Bernier as they start their three-game road trip in St. Louis tonight.

Bernier is coming off a 38-save performance on Tuesday night at home against the Sharks, and despite Semyon Varlamov being healthy again, Bernier will get the nod again. Varlamov made his return off of IR last week against Winnipeg, and played well but the Avs ended up losing 3-0.

It’s expected that coach Jared Bednar will just continue to ride whichever goalie is playing hot and whoever he believes gives his team the best chance to win each given night. They both have the ability to be No. 1 goaltenders in the NHL and the team will likely need both to play at that level down the stretch-run towards the playoffs.

The rest of tonight’s Avalanche lineup can be seen below:

Landeskog – Kerfoot – Rantanen
Compher – Wilson – Jost
Nieto – Soderberg – Comeau
Bourque – Toninato – Yakupov

Zadorov – Johnson
Girard – Nemeth
Lindholm – Barrie

Bernier
Varlamov

Puck drops at 6:08 PM MT on Altitude TV and Altitude 950 AM.
